RCM Advanced Specialist - Piano and Theory

  • Rebecca completed her studies in piano performance at Université de Montréal. Her piano lineage traces back to the great composers Beethoven, Chopin, and Faure.

    A highly sought after pianist, collaborative pianist, and chamber musician, Rebecca regularly performs on both local and international stages, with notable recent appearances at Carnegie Hall in New York. She is also a frequent collaborative pianist for the Kiwanis Music Competition, the Canadian Music Competition, the Elite International Competition, GOCAA, VYSO Concerto Competition, examinations for the Royal Conservatory of Music, as well as various music auditions and choral performances.

    Passionate about music pedagogy, Rebecca has over twenty years of piano and theory teaching experience. She works with students at all levels—from beginners to those preparing for ARCT performance exams, university entrance, and beyond. Under her guidance, students consistently excel in both local and international piano competitions, as well as Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) examinations. In recognition of her outstanding pedagogical achievements, Rebecca has received numerous top teacher awards.

    Rebecca strongly believes that music truly enriches the lives of others, and she always encourages her students to embrace one simple principle: to love what they do, and to love music.

RCM Advanced Specialist - Theory

  • Michael is the Director of Music and Head of Music Theory and Vocal Department at Metropolitan Conservatory of Music. With training in percussion, organ, piano, and voice, Michael completed his studies at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music in orchestral conducting under Alexis Hauser, Composition with Denys Bouliane and vocal performance with Winston Purdy. He served as the conductor for the Beethoven Orchestra and acted as assistant conductor to Jean-Sébastien Vallée for the McGill University Chorus. He often leads ensemble groups to perform at local and international stages such as the prestigious Carnegie Hall, New York. His students consistently excel in competitions and examinations, and under his direction, his ensembles have earned top prizes and critical acclaim on both national and international stages.

    With over fifteen years of teaching experience, Michael has helped hundreds of his music theory students achieve First Class Honours with Distinction (90%+) in all levels with the RCM examinations. His innovative approach to music theory makes complex concepts easily accessible to students of all ages.

Alice
Head of Violin Department

  • Alice is a classically trained violinist with a Master’s degree from the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in Germany. She studied in both Mainz and Darmstadt’s Musik-Tonkunst Akademie, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree. Originally from Seoul, Korea, her artistic journey has taken her across continents—from Korea to Canada and Germany—shaping her as a versatile and expressive performer.

    Alice is a prizewinner at several prestigious international competitions, including the Concorso Internazionale in Italy, the New York International Music Concours, and the BC Performing Arts Provincial Competition in Canada. She has extensive experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, including a season with the Darmstadt State Theater.

    In addition to her performance career, Alice is a dedicated educator. After completing her studies, she taught strings in Freiburg, where she inspired young musicians through her engaging and nurturing teaching style. She brings a deep passion for music and a commitment to helping each student develop their full potential on the violin.

Min Jee
Head of Cello Department

  • Min Jee is a South Korean-born cellist and dedicated educator based in Canada. She holds her degrees from Kyung-won University in Incheon, South Korea, and the Vancouver Academy of Music. She has studied under distinguished cellists and participated in masterclasses led by Aldo Parisot, Daniel Müller-Schott, and Desmond Hoebig.

    After moving to Canada, Min Jee was selected to join the NAC’s Institute of Orchestral Studies in 2011, where she had the opportunity to perform with the National Arts Centre Orchestra under the direction of Pinchas Zukerman in Ottawa. Her extensive orchestral experience includes serving as a Section Cellist with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra and as Principal Cellist of the Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra. Since 2016, she has also performed regularly with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Passionate about chamber music, she actively collaborates with ensembles such as the Listeso String Quartet, Vetta Chamber Music, and the Allegra Chamber Orchestra.

    With over 12 years of teaching experience, Min Jee offers both private and group instruction. She has led programs at VSO Education as well as numerous sectional workshops in elementary and secondary schools across the region.

    Min Jee’s teaching philosophy is to provide a supportive, nurturing, and constructive environment where students can learn and master a wide range of techniques. Her professional approach is essential for developing self-direction and for strengthening students mentally, emotionally, and

    physically. She takes great joy in sharing her professional knowledge and experience with students of all levels, helping them grow both technically and mentally. She supports their preparation for orchestras, competitions, and auditions by combining focused skill development with genuine emotional encouragement.
